The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) this weekend airlifted five former captives of the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army, LRA, from Dungu in DRC to Yambio in South Sudan. Three of them are women, two of whom had given birth to a child each. The third woman is believed to be about three months pregnant.

The UPDF and the allied forces from DR Congo and South Sudan have received three LRA rebel fighters who surrendered and reported on Saturday morning.
Operation Lighting Thunder spokesperson Captain Deo Akiiki told us that they have also rescued about 9 people during several small contacts with Lords resistance army fighters within the last two days.
