Allied Forces to Continue Hunting for LRA

The combined forces of Uganda, DRC and Southern Sudan will continue to hunt for LRA terrorists in DRC jungles despite the elapsing of the 21 days which was initially put to review the operation.
 
The high-level meeting between Uganda and DRC which took place on February 11, 2009 in Dungu, was attended, among others, by the security minister Hon Amama Mbabazi. The meeting reviewed Operation Lightning Thunder and  suspended any further rationing of time frame and deadlines for the operation.
 
Operations will therefore go on until Kony terrorists are routed out of DRC although reviewing will only occur where necessary, according to UPDF spokesperson Deo Akiiki.
 
The meeting at Allied forces tactical Headquarters in Dungu was attended by the DRC minister of Defence His Excellence  Charles Mwando Nsimba, the General Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of DRC Gen. Didier Etumba, The Congolese chief of military intelligence, Gen. Kitenge, the Commander special presidential brigade against LRA Colonel Mondos Muhindo.


The Ugandan deligation was led by Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, Ugandan Chief of Defence Forces. Others were:  Chief of military intelligence Brig James Mugira, 4th Division Commander Brig Charles Otema and the over-all operations commander of operation lightening thunder Brig. Patrick Kankiriho.
 
The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda Gen Aronda Nyakairima also delivered a special message to the Congolese minister of Defence from the president of Uganda.
 
The Congolese minister and his generals have been in Dungu prior this meeting and were briefed by commanders on ground about the current operation situation and without hesitation saw the need of the operation to continue.
