The UPDF and the allied forces from DR Congo and South Sudan have received three LRA rebel fighters who surrendered and reported on Saturday morning.
Operation Lighting Thunder spokesperson Captain Deo Akiiki told us that they have also rescued about 9 people during several small contacts with Lords resistance army fighters within the last two days.
Akiiki says the fighters surrendered with one SMG (AK 47) all in areas of Duru north East of Duruma in DRC.
He says among those who were rescued within the last two days include 3 Sudanese with their two children of 7months to 01 yrs,one Ugandan and 01 Congolese adding that plans are underway to take back the Sudanese probably through their Embassy in Kampala.
According to Deo Akiiki LRAs capacity to abduct and kill has been gravely reduced since the ground forces took control of the situation a month ago.
“They are being starved and no longer have time to sit or plan as our forces reduce their numbers daily” Captain Akiiki told us.
He assured that the operation is on track and unlike conventional warfare, counter insurgency operations requires patience and mastering of the enemy change of tactics and terrain.
Commenting on the Odhimabo the LRA deputy chief, Akiiki says Odhiambo is still buying his time to surrender and OIM and UN are doing their part as we do ours in ensuring his come out. However, going by the time since he declared his intention to surrender we can’t take it serious until he surrenders.
