Police in Oyam district have caged the director of Atura medical centre in Minakulu sub county Oyam district accusing him of using expired drugs to treat patients and operating un registered medical facility.
Dr. Micheal Atanga who has been posing as the qualified medical doctor was netted during the joint police upon the order of the district health authority.
Oyam district health officer Dr. Vincent Owiny says they acted after getting a tip off from the local community of that area.
Owiny said they recovered several assortments of, different expired drugs from the facility adding that Atura medical centre is not recognized and is not registered neither in the district or ministry of health.
Atanga was arrested in Moroto district for operating illegal medical centre when Dr. Vincent Owiny was the then district medical officer.
Two people who were highly suspected to have been treated by the expired drugs were found dead at the centre.
Atanga was paraded to Oyam central police station pending more investigation and would be charged with murder among other charges.
Owiny vowed to precede throughout the district to crackdown some intellectual thugs who are posing in the villages and providing illegal medical services to the people.
He also warned locals against purchasing drugs from local clinics saying this would distress their health.
