2 Lira Hospital Staff Nabbed Over Drug Theft

Police have arrested two medical workers of Lira regional referral hospital believed to be behind the rampant cases of drug theft.


According to the police, Moses Okello, nursing assistant and Patrick Agola, store keeper, were netted for allegedly stealing assortments of drugs with intention to sell in to a retailer one Ekwang Denis in Aboke Sub County.


Okello told police that it was Patrick Agola who had given him those drugs, sending indication that there are some top officers behind some of this theft that usually occur at the hospital.


Lira DPC Raymond Otim said Moses Okello was nabbed with 3 tins of panadol, 2 tins of fragile, 100 ampoules of gentamaisin and 10 bottles of expense.


Sources at the hospital revealed that Patrick Agola is well known for dealing in stolen drugs from the hospital and sale to other retailers at a cheaper price.


Some time in 2006 five medical doctors in Lira were netted for allegedly selling cohatem the then malaria drug introduced by the government.


Late last year a medical worker only identified as Enyang was arrested in connection to the drug theft at Lira regional referral hospital.
