Gulu municipality mayor Christopher Acire has been netted by the police for allegedly raiding to the town clerk's office and threatening violence using his ten heavy looking bully boys on Monday 20 April 2009.
Acire's ten thugs dubbed "Black mamba" were rounded up on Monday by police and have been cooling at Gulu central police station but the no nonsense mayor was nabbed this morning when he appeared at the police.
The continuous rift between Gulu municipality councilors and mayor have taken a new twist. Acire who is a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) sympathizer was elected on independent ticket but has of late been reportedly opening several wounds with almost every top leader in the district.
Northern regional police spokesman Johnson Kilama said that Acire was summoned after receiving a complaint from a section of other councilors. He has been charged and taken to court.
This mayor has been alleging that some people have been sending him anonymous messages threatening to kill him.
Sources in the police revealed that Acire is charged with threatening violence and illegal recruitment of youth in to a security group.
Councilors alleged that Acire had brought his smartly dressed thugs to attack them.
It is reported that Acire on Monday stormed Gulu Municipal council building and invaded town clerk's office and later stormed CAO's office to forcefully allow Gulu town clerk Mackey Odelle to handover office.
