5th Division intelligence operatives have netted northern region coordinator of SARACEEN who has been masquerading and as a UPDF captain. Kamalie Joel (40s) was arrested last night during an operation conducted at 24/7 Lira's famous night club along Kitgum stage.
He was nabbed with a pistol number 20184 loaded with 15 rounds of ammunitions.
"The UPDF intelligence has been tracking Joel for over a month and proved beyond doubt that he was not a UPDF officer", Capt. Deo Akiiki, UPDF 5 Div Public Information Officer said.
The man had always been going to the club and refusing to be disarmed by the 'Kanyamas' or bouncers.
Captain Akiiki said that Joel would always parade his pistol at drinking tables and threatened people thus sending civilians scampering for safer tables.
This monster Joel at one time was reported to police for attempting to rape one Akello Susan using his pistol power. The case of indecent assault is registered as No CRB 1315/200.
Akiiki said: "Civilians had complained to our offices of this self styled UPDF captain and we had to take action. The guy was known by a nick -name of 'Super Star'. He fought with intelligent operatives in attempt to resist arrest. He was handed over to police Lira".
Akiiki added that the man's workmates who reported to their office confessed that this man is always on rampage when he drinks and threatens everybody and that they had long told him to be leaving his pistol at the office.
"He told us that he is a retired NRA soldier but failed to substantiate it when he was asked to produce his retirement certificate or even give his army Number", Akiiki added.
Meanwhile in the same coordinated operation a former Amuka deserter who disappeared in the early days of Amuka operations against LRA was netted in Aduku, Apach district.
Pte Okello Moses was arrested with his SMG AK 47 No 561361564 with 28 rounds after civilians tipped off our intelligence. "He has always evaded us whenever robberies would take place in these areas", said Capt. Akiiki.
"We advise security firms to take caution in giving out security responsibilities lest they risk becoming sources of insecurity which we are struggling to delete from our vocabularies. They are doing a good work as partners and employment sources but their good work shouldn?t be abused by characters of Joel nature", Akiiki concluded.
