Suspected marijuana smokers and peddlers in Lira Police Station

Police in Lira have cracked down on a total of 41 marijuana smokers, suppliers, and habitual offenders in the on going operation to round up street kids.

This is the first biggest operation conducted along dangerous suburbs in Lira town. Early this year a total of 49 marijuana smokers were netted and charged in court.

Security personnel, local leaders and child friendly NGOs in Lira are conducting operation to round up all street children and rehabilitate them to their homes.

These men of the weed were mainly arrested from Cuk Atat, Blue Valley washing bay and areas around Sewerage dam and will be charged in the courts of laws.

However others were released on the orders of detective boss Christopher Uchamgiu, a move which did not impress the task force because most of them are marijuana suppliers to other districts in the region.

Emmanuel Ebong Opeto the taskforce vice chairperson said that they have rounded more than 81 street kids within two days. The kids are being kept at Freidis rehabilitation centre and disable unit in Lira waiting for rehabilitation exercise that will begin soon.
