The event started on the 27th December  with youth conference, which discussed Lango culture and development for the youth and the future of Lango as a whole.

Main speakers at the youth conference included Maxwell Akora, Benson Obua, Julius Peter Odwee, and professor Otiti among others. Presenters at the main conference (28-29 the Dec) included Henry Makmot, Dr. Okaka Dokotum, Prof. Opio Odongo, Judy Adoko, Prof William Boto, Robert Egwea, and Justice Caroline Abeja among others.

In the opening remark the Chairperson of the organizing committee Dr Engineer Michael Odongo told the youth who where collected from the deferent clans in the eight district of Otuke,  Alebtong, Lira, Dokolo, Amolatar, Apac, Kole and Oyam, that they better be prepared for the future with firm knowledge on development otherwise they and their children would become beggars.

“This conference is for you and your children. We who have been struggling to hold the conference will not be there when you are enjoying the fruits” Odongo said.

Meanwhile Prime Minister of Te Kwaro Lango Tony Otoa asked the youth to be strong, focused on the right path, and not accept them to be used by some ruthless politicians and hypocrites that could ruin their future.

“You Youth you are very venerable; don’t allow any bad person to misdirect you. We survived those kinds of people.  That is why we are called old people. It is better you work hard for your future and for the future of your tribe” Otoa said

Lango Paramount Chief  Yosam Odur, told the conference that he is just like John the Baptist, to open the way for Lango tribe to be recognized worldwide since in the past it was only politics that brought the Langi together, but politics has now polarised our community.

The Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) added that it is the struggle he made that is bringing back the people of Lango scattered around the world (Diasporas).

Won Nyaci called for peace, unity, love and productivity from the people of Lango. He also asked clan leaders to preach the gospel of unity and peace and urged his people to desist from immorality and archaic practices.

The conference took place amid serious disagreement emanating from a small section of the Lango community that was politically charged. Nevertheless it was a big siccess and those who had bad intention where left with nothing to say.

President Museveni attended the closing session of the conference following invitation from Won Nyaci Yocam Odur. He spoke warmly about the people of Lango and identified with the Adok clan.

“I treasure Lango tribe because even my clan is here I belong to cow clan (Adok) and the blessing to be the president, I got it from a Lango leader, Abdullah Anyuru, who employed me in the Office of the President,  not knowing he was employing the future President of Uganda.  All that was a blessing from Lango”, Museveni said.

The President promised to give Lango a university and to place Kungu-Apac-Lira-Kitgum road among 20 top priority roads to be surfaced in the country.
